The cutoff wauenumbers k,,, and the field of surface wave modes of a circular cylindrical conductor eccentrically coated by a dielectric are determined analytically. 7'he electromagnetic field is expressed in terms of circular cylindrical wave functions referred to both axes, in ~ornbi~at~on with related ~~ifinn fheiwems. When the so~I~tions \*re speciahzed to small eccentricities kd, where d is the disiance between the two axes, exact &losed-fob expressions are obtained for the coefficients g,,, in the resulting relation k,,(d) = k,,(O)[l f g,,,(k,,d)'+ . . . ] for the cutoff wave~ambers of the waveguide. Similar expressions are obtained for the field. Numerical results for all types of modes are given. For certain values of the parameters, it is possible to enhance the operating bandwidth of the basic hyb~d mode HE,, over the conventional concent~e guide.
