This paper examines how ancient human migration patterns have shaped contemporary differences in economic preferences across populations. The authors analyze data on risk, time, and social preferences from 76 countries. They find that the further back in time two populations diverged from a common ancestral group, the larger the differences are today in their economic preferences.
