What is ES-SAGD Efficiency in Lean Oil Zones about?

This study investigates the performance of steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) and expanding solvent steam assisted gravity drainage (ES-SAGD) in oil sands reservoirs with lean zones. Reservoir simulations show that ES-SAGD recovers more oil than SAGD, and is less impacted by the presence and number of lean zones. Increasing the number of lean zones decreases oil recovery for both methods, but has a greater negative effect on SAGD performance.
