Jacques Cousteau was a French naval officer, ocean explorer, and engineer who is known for inventing the Aqua-Lung and popularizing scuba diving and ocean conservation. After graduating from naval academy in 1933, he developed an interest in underwater exploration. In 1943, he co-invented the Aqua-Lung which allowed divers to explore underwater for long periods.
