What is Epsilon Eridani about?
Epsilon Eridani, also known as Ran, is a K2 main-sequence star located 10.5 light-years from Earth in the constellation Eridanus, notable for being one of the closest stars visible to the naked eye. It is less than a billion years old, has a strong magnetic activity, and hosts a confirmed giant planet, Epsilon Eridani b, along with a debris disc resembling a Kuiper belt. The star was named Ran and its planet AEgir through a public naming competition organized by the International Astronomical Union in 2015.
