Marian Adam Rejewski was a Polish mathematician who reconstructed the Nazi German Enigma cipher machine in 1932. He was able to pass his knowledge of decoding Enigma messages to the British and French in 1939. After Germany invaded Poland, Rejewski evaded capture and eventually made it to Britain where he joined the Polish Army and helped crack German ciphers for the rest of the war.
