What is Jane Jacobs: Urban Design Pioneer about?
Jane Jacobs was born in 1916 in Pennsylvania and moved to New York City in 1935 where she held various jobs including freelance writing about working districts in the city. She became associate editor of Architectural Forum in 1952 which allowed her to closely observe and become critical of conventional city planning practices. Her 1961 book The Death and Life of Great American Cities challenged modernist planning approaches. She led campaigns in the 1960s against highway construction plans in New York City
