About this document

Management of Fever in Adults by navytiara is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Fever is defined as a body temperature above 37.2°C. It is caused by pyrogens which activate the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center. Common pyrogens include cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α produced during infection or inflammation. Fever has benefits in enhancing the immune response but can also cause complications if too high including dehydration, convulsions or increased oxygen demand. Treatment focuses on antipyretics like acetaminophen to reduce temperature while the underlying cause is addressed
