About this document

Columbian Exchange Overview and Impact by Marina Dally is a document available to read on EtoBox.

The Columbian Exchange involved the transfer of animals, plants, diseases, and people between the Old World and the New World. This led to large population losses from diseases in the Americas. However, it also introduced crops and livestock that allowed world population to double by 1850. While it benefited growing global populations with new food sources, it also included the tragic transfer of enslaved Africans. Overall, the Columbian Exchange had both benefits and costs for humanity.
