Emetine and Dehydroemetine Overview by rajeshmangal is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Emetine and dehydroemetine are alkaloids derived from ipecac and a synthetic analogue respectively. They act in the intestinal wall and liver to treat systemic amebiasis infections like liver abscesses. While they have been used to treat amebic liver abscesses and intestinal wall infections, they must be administered carefully due to risks of cardiotoxicity, nausea, and other side effects when used for more than a short period. Chloroquine only acts in the liver to treat amebiasis.
