Jane, a little girl with no siblings, plays with her friends - a big dog named Ben and a big doll named Betty - in her yard and a nearby field. One day while playing near the river, Jane falls in and Ben jumps in to rescue her. Jane then asks where Betty is, so Ben jumps back in the river and retrieves Betty in his mouth, reuniting Jane with both of her friends.
