What is Chromatography in an Explosives Laboratory about?

## Abstract This paper describes some of the features of the Tswett chromatographic technique suited for application to the examination and study of propellants and high explosives. Particular reference is made to an adsorbent consisting of fine silica gel admixed with a filter and. Adsorption series are given for some high explosives and propellant ingredients and characteristic streak tests are described. Finally, a survey is made of a variety of chromatographic applications to problems ranging from analysis and age assessement of propellants to investigations into the causes of the occasional unforeseen colouring of freshly manufactured fishless cordite.
