Batch management in SAP allows tagging materials with a unique 10-digit batch number to identify inventory quantities. A batch is created when goods are received from production, purchase orders, or initial inventory creation. Batch specifications can optionally store characteristics like chemical composition for a batch. To make a batch truly unique, characteristics like production date, line, and shelf life can be added to the batch specifications.
