What is Land Grabbing Laws in Andhra Pradesh about?

The Andhra Pradesh (Prohibition of Transfers) Act 1977 prohibits the transfer of lands assigned to landless poor people by the government for cultivation or dwelling. Landless poor are defined as those owning less than 2.5 acres of wet land or 5 acres of dry land with no other means of livelihood. The transfer of assigned lands to anyone other than another landless person is punishable by up to 6 months imprisonment and a fine between Rs. 2000-5000. Exceptions are made if the land is sold to another landles
