This study evaluated whether adolescent pregnancy is a risk factor for low birth weight (LBW) babies by analyzing data from 4,746 mother-newborn pairs in Aracaju, Brazil. The study found that 20.6% of mothers were adolescents (<20 years old), who had worse socioeconomic conditions and perinatal outcomes compared to other age groups.
