Bulacan province ranks first in morbidity and mortality from rabies in its region. From 2008-2010, over 11,000 animal bite cases were reported, with over 80% caused by dogs. While post-exposure rabies treatment increased over this period, not all bite victims received treatment. The municipalities of Guiguinto, San Jose Del Monte, and Norzagaray had the highest numbers of reported animal bites. There were 22 cases of human rabies in 2010, a significant increase from the previous year.
