What is Hagen about?

Everett Einar Hagen was an American economist born in 1906 who developed a theory of entrepreneurship called "withdrawal of status respect". The theory proposes that when a group experiences a lowering of their social status, such as being displaced by a new elite group or having their symbols disrespected, some members may withdraw respect and react in different ways, including acquiescing to their new status, rebelling to change the system, or innovating to achieve new goals and regain status.
