An outbreak of psittacosis, caused by Chlamydophila psittaci genotype A, occurred at a veterinary teaching hospital. Real-time PCR testing of sputum, throat swabs, and bird fecal samples identified 10 of 29 (34%) exposed individuals and birds as infected. Clinical features in infected individuals ranged from no symptoms to sepsis requiring intensive care.
