What is Shigatoxin about?

This study investigates the role of Shigatoxin 2 (Stx2) in acute kidney failure caused by Stx2-producing E. coli (STEC). It was found that Stx2 directly damages renal tubular epithelium, leading to acute tubular dysfunction and electrolyte disturbances in mice, which lack glomerular thrombotic microangiopathy.
