Synopsis The mental health of parents or caregivers has been well studied including depression, anxiety, inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity, and post-traumatic stress. Parental mental health problems can affect child and adolescent well-being in a number of ways, including their own physical health and development. In this chapter, the authors consider the wide influence of parental mental health concerns within the biopsychosocial model of child development. Limitations of the literature and future directions are also presented.
