Elez Dervišević was the youngest soldier who fought in World War 1 for the Austro-Hungarian army. He was just 11 years old when he decided to leave school and join his brother in defending Austria-Hungary against Serbia. During his service of over 19 months, he rose to the rank of corporal and received several medals for bravery. After being wounded, he recovered in Vienna and later returned home to Bosnia where he became a successful businessman until World War 2. He spent his later years in Syria, where h
