What is A Love Affair about?

This is the secret novel that artist, sculptor and patroness of the arts Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney would not publish in her lifetime. It is the anatomy of a passionate love affair, so real that it exists as fiction on a heightened level. The story of career woman Sandra Fane and powerful and unhappily married American lawyer, Marston Overstreet, is the heart of this love affair. No more affecting love story has been written. Set in Paris in 1935, it is peopled with these vital characters: Marston's strange invalid wife, Eileen Overstreet; Sandra's extremely close affectionate friend, Beatrice Graham; and the arrogant Jacques De La Roche- (who is determined to seduce Sandra). All play vital roles in Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney's splendid novel, a book that has the ingredients best-sellers are made of.
