This document provides notes for constructing a gabion retaining wall including: 1. Welded wire mesh gabions with galvanized coating 3-5mm diameter wire. 2. Backfill shall be a well-graded granular material with particles up to 40mm compacted to a dense state. 3. Uniformly distributed surcharge loads are assumed to be 1.5 kN/m^2 for pedestrian areas and 2.5 kN/m^2 for vehicle traffic under 3 tonnes.
