Evaluation of Solubility Data Useful for Phase Solubility Determination of Azathioprine by David W. Newton; Wallace J. Murray; Suphalerk Ratanamaneichatara is a Chemistry article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Evaluation of Solubility Data Useful for Phase Solubility Determination of Azathioprine about?

Azathioprine and related 6-thiopurines are inadequately soluble in common organic solvents for determinations based on phase solubility and for liquid-liquid extraction from aqueous specimens. The solubility of azathioprine in twelve organic solvents and water was studied, and the linear relationship between log (solubility) and log (solvent dipole moment) showed lowest correlation in the cases of pyridine and pyrrole. The latter two solvents form induced dipoles with 6-thiopurines, thereby resulting in large positive deviations from the solubilities predicted by permanent dipole-dipole solvation. Based on the solubility data, the feasibility of phase solubility determination of azathioprine in a (1 t 1) mixture of pyridine and ethanol was established.
