Can I read Extraordinary damping of Ni–Ti double layer films on EtoBox?

Extraordinary damping of Ni–Ti double layer films by Corneliu Craciunescu; Manfred Wuttig is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Extraordinary damping of Ni–Ti double layer films about?

An unusually high damping peak has been detected in martensitermartensite double layer Ni᎐Ti shape memory films. The double layer consisted of two 1-m thick layers deposited successively at 250 and 385ЊC from the same target onto a 100-m Si cantilever substrate. Around room temperature, the individual layers consisted of rhombohedral and monoclinic martensite, respectively. The maximum damping of the martensitermartensiterSi cantilever, occurring at 50ЊC, equaled Q y1 s 1.4= 10 y4 , which corresponds to a damping of the martensitermartensite composite of 11%. It is proposed that this extraordinary damping is caused by the interactive formation of B19Ј and R martensites in the stress coupled layers.
