This study examined dermatophyte infections in patients attending an outpatient dermatology clinic in northern Italy between 2004-2006. A total of 100 samples from 95 patients were collected, from which 97 dermatophytes and 3 keratinophylic fungi were isolated. Trichophyton rubrum was the most common dermatophyte identified, followed by Microsporum canis and Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
