Particle motion in a laminar slit flow: A fundamental fouling study by F.W. Altena; G. Belfort; J. Otis; F. Fiessinger; J.M. Rovel; J. Nicoletti is a Environmental Science article available to read on EtoBox.
What is Particle motion in a laminar slit flow: A fundamental fouling study about?
The lateral motion of spherical particles in a porous duct is determined by permeation drag and an inertial force originating in the fluid (tubular-pinch effect). The conditions under which the two forces can be vectorially added are examined. For particles of radius >1 Pm inertial migration influences the particle trajectory. The motion of submicron sized particles is usually governed by permeation drag, unless very narrow slits are used or the effective slit height is much reduced due to fouling.
