What is e/m Ratio Experiment Analysis about?
Lab 7 aimed to determine the charge to mass ratio of the electron. Students recorded voltage, current, and beam radius data from 5 trials using a Pasco E/M apparatus. They graphed V vs I^2 and found the slope, which was used to calculate the experimental e/m ratio. This value had a 5.69% error from the accepted value. Mass spectrometers also use e/m ratios to separate charged particles by mass when particles move in a magnetic field and bend into circular arcs like in this lab.
