IMRT Optimization of High Dose Focal Liver Treatments With the Goal of Minimally Irradiating Uninvolved Liver Segments Counted on for Regeneration Post Treatment by K.A. Vineberg; C.C. Pan; U. Krishnan; T.S. Lawrence; R.K. Ten Haken is a Medicine article available to read on EtoBox.
What is IMRT Optimization of High Dose Focal Liver Treatments With the Goal of Minimally Irradiating Uninvolved Liver Segments Counted on for Regeneration Post Treatment about?
Results: The single fraction plan was delivered to the phantom. The absolute dose measured by the ion chamber was 0.99 of the average dose calculated within the chamber collection volume. The 5 fraction version of the plan was then delivered. The measured charge was 0.974 of the charge delivered by the 1 fraction treatment in close agreement with the prediction. Conclusions: Fractionated CK treatment can result in underdosing of roughly 3%. This underdose could be compensated for by increasing the absolute dose prescription or perhaps by incorporating the relative dose factors for MU linearity directly into the planning software. In subsequent studies we have found similar results for smaller target volumes, other anatomic locations, and solutions involving different collimators and number of beams.
