What is Akis about?

This recipe provides instructions for making traditional Greek Christmas honey cookies called Melomakarona. The cookies are made with two mixtures - one of oils, juices, sugars and spices, and another of flour and semolina. The dough is formed into oval shapes and baked until crunchy. While still hot from the oven, the cookies are soaked in a cinnamon-infused syrup made from water, sugar, honey, orange and cloves. Once drained, they are drizzled with honey and walnuts to serve.
