General Motors is an American multinational automotive corporation headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. In 2010, GM was the second largest automaker in the world, employing 209,000 people and doing business in 157 countries. GM produces cars and trucks under its brands Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Opel, Vauxhall and Holden. In 2009, GM sold 6.5 million vehicles globally and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization with financing from the US government.
