Objective: To determine whether the observed inadvertent ototoxicity of commercially available gentamicin sulfate and betamethasone sodium phosphate eardrops can be therapeutically used to ablate vestibular function in patients with unilateral Meniere's disease. ## Study design: Prospective case review. Setting: A tertiary care dizziness unit at the Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto. Patients: Twenty adults with unilateral Meniere's disease undergoing intratympanic ablation therapy. Intervention: Following insertion of a tympanostomy tube, patients were instructed to instill the eardrops three times daily until they felt continuously vertiginous for longer than 24 hours and then to continue applying the drops for an additional two days. Electronystagmography (ENG) caloric responses were measured using pre-treatment bithermal water calorics and post treatment air calorics. ## Main outcome measures: Post treatment ENG and audiograms (performed at 1-4 months) were compared with pre-treatment testing.
