The Samyeok Chonghae formed a core component of learning Manchu for would-be Manchu interpreters in Korea. It contained excerpts from 10 chapters of the Chinese historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms translated into Manchu in 1650. The Samyeok Chonghae presented the Manchu text alongside a phonetic transcription into Korean characters and an interlinear translation into Middle Korean, making it trilingual.
