What is Injectable Dermal and Subcutaneous Fillers about?
A combination of dermal thinning, bony resorption, and reduction in dermal collagen and elastic tissue leads to aging skin. Filler substances have been able to slow down and even correct these changes. Soft tissue augmentation started with fat transplantation and then lead to the use and US Food and Drug Administration approval of bovine collagen. Today hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, and poly-L-lactic acid are the preferred fillers. In this chapter, we will further discuss product formulations, indications, contraindications, and possible complications and management.
