What is Thorium Fuel: Myths and Realities about?
Thorium fuel does not solve the problems of nuclear power. While thorium is more abundant than uranium, it still poses proliferation risks if used in reactors. The spent fuel from thorium reactors would require geologic disposal like uranium fuel and produce long-lived radioactive waste. Thorium fuel also faces ongoing technical hurdles and is not likely to be economically viable compared to uranium. It has not proven commercially viable despite decades of research.
