The CPI rose 0.1% in August driven by increases in shelter, food, and medical care costs. This was partially offset by a 10.6% decline in gasoline prices. Over the last 12 months, the CPI increased 8.3%, a smaller rise compared to the previous month. Food prices increased 0.8% in August and were up 11.4% over the last year. Energy prices fell 5% in August due to lower gasoline costs. Excluding food and energy, prices rose 0.6% in August and 6.3% over the past 12 months.
